- To provide moral support to men diagnosed with prostate cancer and their carers.
- To disseminate information about prostate cancer, including any developments and research, both from local and national sources.
- To promote local awareness of prostate cancer.
- To keep up pressure for improved treatments and diagnosis of prostate cancer at all levels.
- To assist in the creation and support of local area groups within the Association’s region.
- To establish and maintain contacts with other associations and organisations with similar interests.
- To carry out any other activities consistent with or necessary to achieve the above objectives.
Membership
Membership of the Association is open to all men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and their carers. There are quarterly meetings of NEDPSA often with a guest speaker, also regular meetings of the area groups. You are welcome to attend any of the meetings and membership is not necessary. An informative quarterly newsletter is sent to all members. Contacts
The Support Group Telephone Directory
One of our most important services is the ability to provide contacts with people who are prepared to discuss their experiences on a one to one basis. These people are willing to take phone calls from the newly diagnosed, who are concerned about the options open to them, or those who simply wish to compare notes on their progress.
We have prepared a directory of people who are willing to take calls and discuss their experiences. They have signed forms agreeing to provide this service, which keeps us on the right side of the Data Protection Act. The list gives details of their name, the area in which they live and the treatments they have experienced and of course their telephone number. This list is only given to members of the North and East Devon Prostate Support Association.
Some of the wives have also signed up for this list so that carers can also contact other carers.
Membership details available from Ann Branson. Telephone 01392 277295
