National media highlight unfair ban on the drug ENZALUTAMIDE.
Press reports point out that the drug is being denied to men with prostate cancer. Enzalutamide hit the headlines after the NHS's drug rationing body, NICE, imposed new curbs on who should be given the drug. NICE at first made a draft recommendation that Enzalutamide be given to patients who had had chemotherapy. When the new draft decision was published, they had inserted a caveat that it could not be given after Abiraterone. The decision is currently out for consultation, but this perverse change could mean thousands of men a year will be denied access to this potentially life saving drug.
